Mālama Nā Keiki: The Extraordinary Gift of Hanahau`oli 2012
Mālama Nā Keiki (for the children), Hanahau`oli's primary fundraiser, is held each year in the early spring. This remarkable event is co-sponsored by the school's Board of Trustees and Hui Hanahau`oli parent group and involves the entire school community in a major volunteer effort that culminates in over 500 friends of the school enjoying a lovely dinner and exciting silent and live auction. Last year's event raised a record-breaking net of $228,000 which will benefit the financial aid program and special school improvement projects.
There are many ways to participate in the Malama event. From attending and bidding, to volunteering in the months leading up to the event or on the night itself as an auction worker to donating something uniquely Hanahau`oli, we are grateful for the many roles that people play in making this event so well attended, so well organized, and so enjoyed by not only those present that night, but for all who reap the benefits in the following year.
Grandparents and Kupuna Day April 17, 2012* (*Date changed from 4/10/12)
Each April one of the happiest events for children takes place on the Hanahau`oli campus. Children invite their grandparents or a significant elder to spend the morning in their classrooms to share learning experiences. The children design projects to engage their grandparents in exchanges about what it was like when they were students and grandparents get to be a part of the project work seeing and touching the new tools and technologies that students utilize today. Both learn from one another but the best part involves the stories that are told that bridge generational differences and bring families closer together. The morning is looked forward to by eveyone as a very special opportunity to make connections between home and school.
