Welcome to Hanahau`oli School

Welcome to the Hanahau`oli School website.  Our goal is to make access to information about Hanahau`oli both easy and informative for current members of our `ohana and for those interested in discovering more about this small, personalized school  founded upon the Progressive ideas of John Dewey and located behind the mock orange hedge on Makiki Street in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Hanahau`oli is a small JK – Grade 6, multiage school that focuses on early childhood and the elementary years.  Our school organization reflects real life and recognizes that children develop at different rates and need both challenge and time to develop as learners.  The school’s small size means that we know each child as an individual and work with families to support growth and progress.  Learning is designed to meet the child’s needs and the teacher-student ratio offers the opportunity to personalize learning opportunities.  Our emphasis on real-life learning makes the community our classroom as children venture forth to research topics of study.  Hanahau`oli offers both an academically challenging and personally nurturing environment for children.

We invite you to tour our website to gain a sense of the excitement for learning that characterizes our school.  We also invite current families to find out more about what is happening in your child’s classroom while encouraging our alumni to visit frequently to recall those special traditions and days of “happy work.”
